Please describe your mission, values, and approach:

Laura’s vision is to work with partners to achieve healthier communities, stronger families, and thriving children. Her mission is to create a just and equitable world in collaboration with change-oriented leaders. LVA is a values-driven consulting firm seeking to partner with others who share the values of social justice and race equity, relationship building & co-design, authenticity, integrity & respect. LVA’s approach is focused on delivering high-quality coaching and consulting that integrates technical support, thought partnering, mentorship, facilitation and capacity building to help partners achieve their vision, mission and goals. Using change management best practices, LVA is adept at guiding and supporting conversations that enable executive leadership to successfully transition into their roles, objectively assess an organizations strengths and needs, and develop actionable plans to guide culture and systems change internally – with an unwavering commitment to embedding diversity, equity, inclusion, and access into the DNA of the organization.

What expertise or perspective do you bring to organizations looking to ground their collaboration practices in values of diversity, equity, and inclusion?

Laura was raised in the Latinx community of Boyle Heights and has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 40 years. As a former community organizer, public policy analyst, and social worker, Laura leveraged her background and expertise to establish her own consultancy so that she could dedicate her efforts to values-aligned organizations committed to social justice. Laura’s approach to each project is informed by her lived experience as the daughter of Mexican immigrants and her continued connection to the very people impacted by and who benefit from social transformation. LVA’s perspective on successful transition planning is grounded in a collectivist view that believes we must uplift the expertise, shared values, and strengths of both the executive team and staff to build strong and enduring organizations. LVA helps organizations transition effectively through the facilitation of courageous conversations coupled with holistic coaching practices that help teams reach their transition goals.

Please describe your ideal engagement. Feel free to include issue area and scope of project:

Our ideal engagement would be working with a social impact organization to guide their leadership planning, organizational assessment, strategic planning, and coaching for the Executive Director or CEO and their team over a 6-10 month period. We would bring our coaching and strategic planning experience to help the Executive team, Board, and staff create an inclusive and clear transition structure and process. Our approach includes coaching sessions with the ED to allow them space and opportunity to learn about the organization’s internal culture and confidently harness their own strengths and experiences to enrich and strengthen the organization.

How many executive-transition related projects have you or your firm been involved with?

LVA has supported nine executive-transition-related projects over the last two decades. LVA has played a variety of roles including transition consultant, capacity builder, executive coach to the CEO or senior leadership, and organizational assessment lead.

Please describe your fee structure:

The fee structure for every project varies based on the contract length, projected time, deliverables and client budget. We do offer a sliding fee scale to accommodate smaller nonprofits. We provide a comprehensive proposal, with a proposed budget, timeline, and deliverables and are happy to negotiate the scope. Our average hourly rate is $275.

What percentage of your clients are within the nonprofit sector?

Over the last ten years, 80% of our clients are nonprofit organizations serving Los Angeles County and California. 90% of our clients over the last five years are BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ or women-led.

Are you open to remote engagements?

Yes

Briefly name and describe 1-3 examples of executive transitions with which you have been involved as a consultant (please prioritize NSI-funded and/or LA-based organizations).

Para Los Ninos- Community Transformation Department – currently supporting the leadership team with a departmental transition; Human Services Association – supported the incoming ED with transition into new role, coaching and strategic planning; California Department of Education Multilingual Support Division – supported executive leadership through an inclusive internal planning process that included visioning and goal setting, organizational alignment, strategic planning, and thought partnership/coaching.

Add any other information you feel would aid in understanding the value you or your consulting firm can bring to an organization preparing for or implementing an executive transition:

LVA often partners with other values-aligned social impact consulting firms and would welcome the opportunity to partner with other NSI consultants.
