How would you describe the range of diversity reflected in your firm’s consultants and leadership (or self, if sole practitioner)?

We’re a team of professionals with decades of experience serving thought leaders, nonprofits, foundations, and social impact businesses. We are primarily BIPOC, women-led. We boldly lead with equity and center diverse voices through our client work. We practice a shared leadership business model bring creativity and humor to problem-solving to every project. We bring our collective lived-experience to bear in designing and executing integrated leadership development and communications efforts.

Please describe your mission, values, and approach:

Momentum Solutions is a bold and diverse group of thinkers, doers and communicators. We joined forces in 2016 after experiencing burn-out from grind culture to form a social impact agency that allows us to have more work-life balance and prioritize working with organizations that align with our values. We are lifelong learners driven by the desire to make the world a better place through communications that are grounded in equity. Momentum Solutions has a set of core values designed to inform how we interact. The purpose of these values is to define how we do business and what drives us as people. Our values include: Rooted in Relationships, Equity & Inclusion, Balance and Intentional Action.

What expertise or perspective do you bring to organizations looking to ground their collaboration practices in values of diversity, equity, and inclusion?

The majority of our team members are native Angelenos and have witnessed the fabric of our community evolve into a complex, integrated, and powerful quilt over the last 40+ years. Our approach to every project is nuanced by the experiences of living, working and creating in a region that intersects cultures, belief systems, languages, justice, and art. Transition planning success comes from integrating the team’s (the clients and ours) collective expertise, tapping into shared values and strengths, and leveraging our inclusive coaching lens to reach their transition goals. We value the importance and impact of representation—to help individuals see and experience their greatest potential by identifying with leaders who look like them.

Please describe your ideal engagement. Feel free to include issue area and scope of project:

Our ideal engagement would be working with a social impact organization in California leading their leadership planning, coaching the Executive Director or CEO and their team forward over a 6-10 month period to ensure a smooth transition. We would bring our coaching experience and communications background to the project, helping to build clear messaging for the organization and external parties, while also creating clear structure for the transition. It would include time to work with the incoming ED to allow them space and opportunity to learn the organizational culture and bring their own lens and experiences to the organization in a healthy and inclusive timeline.

How many executive-transition related projects have you or your firm been involved with?

We have been involved in six executive-transition-related projects over the last few years. With these projects, our team has played a variety of roles including Lead transition consultant, communications strategy adviser, media relations lead, transition trainer, executive coach to the CEO or an internal department, and the Interim Executive Director role.

Please describe your fee structure:

The fee structure for every project varies based on the contract length, projected time, number of partners working on the project, deliverables and client budget. We do have a sliding fee scale to allow smaller nonprofits to work with our agency. We provide a clear proposal, with a budge range for clients, and agree on a set timeline, deliverables and budget before we launch into the work. Our social impact hourly rate is $275.

What percentage of your clients are within the nonprofit sector?

Over the last six years, 70% of our clients are nonprofit organizations serving Los Angeles County and California. 80% of our clients over the three years are BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ or women-led.

Are you open to remote engagements?

Yes

Briefly name and describe 1-3 examples of executive transitions with which you have been involved as a consultant (please prioritize NSI-funded and/or LA-based organizations).

Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship – Los Angeles (Transition of chapter founder and CEO) The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company (Transition of long-time ED) The Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust (Transition of long-time ED, also working closely with national recruitment firm) The Breese Foundation (Transition and recruitment of the Associate Director)

Add any other information you feel would aid in understanding the value you or your consulting firm can bring to an organization preparing for or implementing an executive transition:

Valuing authentic strength-based partnerships, our agency is open to partnering with another contracted NSI consultant to bring our unique skills to a project that might need them.
